| A great example
of the breadth of our skill and our ability to
fast-track projects is the work we did for Abigroup
for Macquarie Generation on the Antiene Rail Unloader.
This project was a rail spur; wagon maintenance
facilities; wagon unloading terminal; conveying
system ~ 5km to Bayswater power station.
Multiskilled performed all electrical related
works other than the physical installation. From
concept and costing to commissioning and optimisation.
The overall project value was ~ $110 million,
the electrical component we delivered was ~$13million.
Multiskilled prepared the electrical concepts
and estimates that Abigroup included in its winning
proposal to Macquarie Generation.
We then went on to:
- Project manage all electrical, costs, budgets,
reforecasts, variations, S curves and the like
- Establish standards and specs
- Detail and document the design
- Tender and procure all electrical related
items
- Resolve and define interfaces and work with
package vendors
- Direct and manage seventy electricians on
the job for ~9 months
- Program the automation of the facility
- Define the commissioning strategies and documents
- Perform the commissioning
- Support the facility through the warranty
period
- Prepare and support variation claims
Of particular note: this project had to happen
quickly, had a deadline and had to be delivered
for the planned price. Multiskilled used ideas
including the following to achieve that:
- Instead of fixed price the ~70 electricians
were hired at rates, we tightly supervised and
controlled them. This enabled flexibility in
the work performed and whilst minimising inefficiencies
and overheads for risk cover.
- We sourced equivalent products, not name
brand, that was suitable and cheaper. These
have proved reliable.
- We put a lot of effort into planning to ensure
appropriate timing constraints were catered
for, like long lead items
- We identified and managed the risks
- We establish thorough control methods, regular
reporting, deliverables list, gating, S curves
and the like.
