MULTISKILLED WINS INNOVATION AWARD
Electrical and Automation Engineering company, Multiskilled Resources Australia has been announced the 2011 HunterNet Chairman’s Innovation Award recipient.
Multiskilled was recognised for two projects in their advanced stages – the tablet PC and the Rail Vision System™ at a gala evening attended by around 400 industry colleagues at Newcastle City Hall.
Director and Principal Engineer, Ken Hipwell said the Chairman’s Innovation Award is recognition for a dedicated team of professionals driven by success.
“We have worked extremely hard in recent years to develop a company culture that encourages our employees to share Multiskilled’s success,” he said.
“Our continuous search for improvement requires buy-in from our entire workforce to understand and adopt our vision.
“The Vision System™ is a project with across-the-board input and we are extremely proud to be recognised for its potential to improve the rail and resources industries.”
In its final trial stages, the Vision System ™ has been developed to monitor problems encountered in the rail industry, offering major improvements to maintenance and safety.
The self-contained system comprises hardware and software design linked to several cameras and equipment to monitor wagon conditions including unlocked or jammed doors, locked wheels, locomotive and wagon identification, hot wheel detection as well as train speed and direction.
“Our other major research and development project involves Tablet PC technology. It’s undergoing final testing and will offer major improvements for the coal, environmental and engineering consulting industries,” he said.
Established in 1998 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Multiskilled Resources Australia specialises in Electrical and Automation Engineering, servicing the mining, rail, water, oil and gas industries, providing electrical, control system and software design and implementation.
With a workforce of more than 65 specialist engineers, rapid growth has seen the company expand beyond its New South Wales headquarters, establishing an interstate base in Mackay, Queensland.
“Our growth is attributed to our client, employee and community focused attitude,” Mr Hipwell said.
“This award is recognition for Multiskilled’s dedicated staff and stakeholders and I wish to thank HunterNet and CEO, John Coyle for their support and belief in our company.”
As recognition for the Antiene Coal Unloader project, Multiskilled was a Finalist in the Engineers Australia (Sydney Chapter) – Engineering Excellence Awards 2008: Control Systems and Communications category.
